Loire/Poitou-Charentes border near Saumur - B&B - Bed and Breakfast - Chambre d'hote en-suite Farmhouse accommodation with shared swimming pool and tennis court. Our two comfortable guesthouse upstairs bedrooms have super-kingsize double or twin beds for 2 people, heating in winter and in summer, air-conditioning as well as mini-fridges . Our countryside location is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful Anjou and Western Loire areas of France. In a tiny hamlet, surrounded by vineyards, wood land and countryside, yet less than 15 minutes from local market towns and supermarkets. Dinner is often available, especially on day of arrival. The bedroom in our Cottage Gite is available as a third bedroom for 2 if not already rented out as a gite. Unrestricted and free use of Swimming Pool, Tennis Court, Indoor Games room and indoor/outdoor games equipment.
| |  | Nestled amongst vineyards, sunflower fields and farmland, our restored farmhouse, set in 1.75 acres, has its own 10x5m heated pool (May - Sept) and tennis court (coaching available).
Both our 2 bedrooms (upstairs) available for B&B have whb, ensuite shower and wc; 3' twinbeds or zip/linked 6'wide superking double; cotton bed-linen, XL shower towels for adults, tea /coffee making facilities and mini fridge, air conditioning in summer and heated towel-rails in Autumn, Winter and Spring. Central heating is turned on whenever necessary. We have a bath you may use by request.
In the spacious lounge/dining room is a stone fireplace with log burner, books, maps, tourist information and indoor games for your use.
All the facilities at Les Deux Chenes are for your use, free of charge but shared with the owners and any other guests, including the indoor games room with table-tennis and darts, and the use of other outdoor games equipment which may be used on the many outside grassy areas.

Our relaxing farmhouse for B&B guests can be reached within a few hours from all the north coast French ferry ports. The nearest is Caen, 195 miles and Boulogne is only 325 miles. Much of the journey can be done on motorways and dual-carriageways.
Our Chambre d'hote is 18 miles south-west of Saumur, a famous chateau town on the River Loire and 35 miles south-east of another famous chateau town, Angers.
Our charming Farmhouse in Deux Sevres / Poitou-Charentes is on the border with Maine et Loire and our tiny hamlet of Basse Baffrie is situated between the pretty chateau town of Montreuil-Bellay (9 miles east), the modern town of Doue la Fontaine (8 miles north) and the market town of Thouars (10 miles south).
1.5 miles away, our nearest village , Bouille-Loretz, has a baker, butcher, post office, corner shop and church. |  | The advent of cheap airfares with Ryanair from UK airports to Poitiers (55 miles) and Tours (75 miles) and Nantes (75 miles) has encouraged many visitors to now fly and then hire a car. Visitors are even flying cheaply to Paris from their local airport and hiring a car from there or taking the fast TGV train from Paris CDG airport to Angers and hiring a car there. New routes now include: EMA to Nantes (Ryanair); Stansted to Nantes (Ryanair); Bournemouth to Nantes (occasional Ryanair summer route only)
Guests traveling from the Midlands or North may chose to take the ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge or Harwich to Hook of Holland.
We have had guests from Ireland travelling ferry from Rosslare to Cherbourg.
The seaside of the Vendee and La Rochelle are approximately 80 miles away.
| | | | | Activities (on site and in local area) | This lovely Anjou region, known as the 'garden of France' is ideal for walking and cycling. Doue la Fontaine is famous for its beautifully landscaped conservation Zoo, Rose Gardens, Caves and old Troglodyte dwellings.
Near the ancient chateau town of Saumur you can tour and taste at the sparkling wine houses and visit the National Riding School to watch the horses being trained for public shows , as well as for the military.
The whole area has many chateaux with stunning architecture and steeped in history such as those at Saumur, Villandry, Ussy, Langais, Azay-le-Rideau, Chinon, Montreuil-Bellay, Brissac Quince, Angers and the Abbey at Fontevraud.
For the active there are boats / kayaks on the local rivers, a climbing centre, squash, badminton courts, go-karting, quad-biking, riding schools, cyling, walking and childrens activity centres including a water slide. Golf Clubs at Saumur, Bauge, Loudun and Angers welcome visitors. You can be a passenger or pilot at Saumur or Thouars airfields. There is fishing on local rivers and lakes ('Pescalis' is less than an hour away) and a sailing school at Saumur. The medieval theme park of Puy du Fou with day and night shows is one hour away, as is Futuroscope at Poitiers.
The southern side of the loire Valley has abundant wild life, especially bird life.
All our local towns have a weekly outdoor market. Wine tasting is everywhere and we can arrange for you to visit a local viticulturist who will speak English.
Here at Les Deux Chenes you can swim and play tennis. Our indoor games-room houses table-tennis, darts, a basket-ball net and equipment for various outdoor games and for the pool
